What is ESG?
Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) reporting is a practice through which organizations hold themselves accountable for their environmental and social impacts, demonstrate responsible business conduct and provide transparency into their approach to corporate governance. It serves as a framework for identifying and managing risk, strengthening organizational trust and credibility, and supports long-term value creation through data-driven decisions.
An ESG report is shaped by a materiality assessment which identifies the environmental, social and governance topics most relevant to an organization’s values, informed by regulatory requirements and globally recognized frameworks, such as the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). Through meaningful consultation and impact assessments with stakeholders, partners and employees, the organization defines its material priorities. This focuses attention on the areas within each of the three ESG pillars that carry the greatest impact, risk or opportunity.
The ESG process is highly data-driven, relying on the collection, validation, year-over-year analysis and benchmarking of key internal and external data. This process provides the foundation for measuring performance, strengthening accountability, setting targets and tracking progress toward organizational goals. Combined with alignment to recognized ESG frameworks, these insights create a clear and standardized view of an organization’s ESG performance and progress.
A strong ESG report is compliant, thorough and honest, serving as a report card on the organization’s values, progress and performance. It is also dynamic; rather than remaining a static document, it becomes embedded in business practice, with its outcomes acting as a catalyst for change.
ESG Commitment at Blackstone
We believe meaningful ESG progress starts with understanding where we can have the greatest impact. Our commitment to transparency and continuous improvement is reflected in our voluntary biennial ESG reporting, with our third report to be released later this year.
While the size and nature of our operations do not require us to publish an ESG report, we choose to do so as part of our commitment to industry best practices, alignment with recognized standards, and making a positive impact in the communities we serve. This approach reflects our corporate values of creating good energy and supports our vision of crushing carbon footprints for all.
We integrate ESG into our broader business strategy to help us operate responsibly while building resilient, sustainable growth over time. By focusing on measurable progress rather than simply making claims, our ESG reporting strengthens internal governance, supports accountability, and helps us identify and mitigate risk.
Our third ESG report is coming soon. Stay tuned to explore the progress we’ve made, the areas where we continue to improve, and how we’re putting our ESG commitments into action.
