Infrastructure Renewal at Guelph General Hospital
Blackstone developed a two-phase energy infrastructure renewal program for Guelph General Hospital, modernizing the 414,500 sq. ft. facility while maintaining uninterrupted patient care. Through a Managed Energy Services Agreement (MESA) and Design-Build-Finance model, the team built a multi-faceted solutions project, projected to cut emissions by 3,200 tCO₂e annually and generate $1.34 million in yearly utility and operating savings. Phase I was completed under budget and secured more than $2 million in incentive funding, improving hospital resilience and reducing operational costs.

Navigating the Evolving Price of Carbon
Following the federal decision in 2025 to set the consumer fuel charge to zero, Blackstone implemented an internal and external engagement strategy to ensure that our clients and team understood the associated policy risks and opportunities. Through internal webinars, a policy playbook, and advisory sessions, Blackstone helped our clients navigate their own emissions profile, energy use, compliance exposure, and energy infrastructure priorities.

Innovative Grid-Response Solution at Confederation College
Building on extensive energy planning work completed with Confederation College, Blackstone partnered with the College, Synergy North, and Powerconsumer to secure IESO Grid Innovation Fund (GIF) support for a first-of-its-kind demonstration project in Northwestern Ontario. The project integrates thermal energy storage, heat recovery technologies, advanced building controls, and the blackPAC® Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS) to enable dynamic coordination between campus energy assets and the local electricity grid.
