Blackstone Energy Services, an integrated carbon and energy services provider to organizations seeking to reduce carbon emissions and energy consumption, and SHIFT Energy, whose machine learning-powered energy management systems curbs energy consumption and emissions, today announced a strategic partnership that includes incorporating SHIFT’s technology in Blackstone’s blackPACTM Optimize and activeICI distributed energy resource management system (DERMS) modules.

Blackstone’s blackPACTM distributed energy resource management system consolidates all facility energy data into a web-based, scalable, insightful and easy-to-use carbon and energy management platform. The SHIFT-powered blackPAC Optimize module uses Machine Learning to automate real-time optimization of building systems while the blackPAC activeICI module automates building demand management and peak shifting for Industrial Commercial Initiative (ICI) savings.

With a vision to help take all their clients to net zero emissions by 2050, Toronto-based Blackstone Energy Services focuses on responsible carbon and energy management.  Working in the built environment poses its own challenges, and ensuring that their clients stay informed, be in control and drive positive change in their organization is paramount.

“With the increasing focus to decarbonize and reduce costs in the built environment for our client base, we needed an investment grade demand management and continuous automated commissioning technology solution to complete our blackPAC™ DERMS platform,” said Tim Schneider, President of Blackstone Energy Services Ltd.  “SHIFT Energy, with their years of industry leading optimization technology and proven performance in carbon and energy reduction in the sectors we serve, is the perfect partner to bring the deep retrofit savings we deliver in an Energy-as-a-Service offering. We are excited to bring this innovative financial and technical solution to our clients and be part of their journey to achieve the required 2030 and 2050 carbon reduction targets.”

SHIFT Energy, part of the Saint John, New Brunswick-based Mariner Group of Companies, helps facilities like hospitals, office towers, campuses, sporting venues and other large buildings maximize the performance of their existing systems and HVAC equipment to significantly reduce energy consumption, cost and carbon emissions without impacting occupant comfort.

“Building operations, primarily heating and cooling, account for nearly 30 percent of greenhouse gas emissions globally. To achieve our collective net zero goals and avoid the worst impacts of climate change, we need to implement practical, rapid decarbonization solutions for existing buildings. Working in collaboration with Blackstone, we will enable facility owners and operators to achieve significant energy and emissions savings,” said Dave Schriver, General Manager with SHIFT Energy.

SHIFT Energy’s solution is deployed in locations across North America while Blackstone Energy Services counts customer engagements in a wide variety of sectors across Canada.
